Hamfest Calendar for 2015 / 2016
Swapfest, Ham Fest, what ever you want to call it these are great fun and usually very interesting for new and old Hams. I have gone to these since 1978 when I first got to go to the Dallas First Saturday swap fest which is only a memory now.
Hams will find a way to get together and swap items and stories and afterward go to lunch and start all over again.
I have tried to start a list of Texas events here and will be expanding it as time goes and have posted my list for Texas here for everyone to check out and use as a reference if they like. Drop me a note if you have an upcoming event you would like to have posted please forward a flyer or notice to my email address at:

Okay these are my observations and opinions ONLY I have been going to many of these events for more that 10 years and in some cases more that 20! San Antonio TX A great Ham fest along with a fun place to visit! I have been going since the late 1980's The San Antonio hams are a nice group of people with a mix if some pretty interesting individuals. One thing that is good here is the amount of RF and Microwave parts and test equipment. There are some really good sources here if your looking for that kind of thing along with lot of good ham gear. Georgetown TX A lot of fun but a little small A great way to start the year off Right! Nice location simple and easy to get too. Worth the time to go to always. Orange TX A really fun South East Texas Swapfest. Held in a VFW hall not very large BUT lots of cool stuff shows up every year. Rosenberg TX Was There today and it gets better every year, the BEVARC group is really trying and succeeding at making this event a great success. A good event I recommend it. The folks are working hard to give us a top notch event and in my opinion have done a great job. Midland TX I have not been there in a few years but I really love this event and West Texas. You need to go to this one at least once or twice. Items come in from New Mexico and several other states. This is worth going to see! Head out west and plan to do some exploring while your there! Belton TX I have going to this one since the first time it was held. I was a member of TARC back then and it was good the first time and has only gotten better. been going on a LONG time and has had a a few ups and downs in attendance BUT NEVER bad in the quality that the TARC people put into the event ONE OF THE BEST to got too! The TARC team does a really good job. Plano TX Ham-Com well it has been incredible in the old days but has really gone DOWN HILL. The event has moved to a small event center from a really huge one in Arlington. A major issue is that they have started opening on Friday morning and closing at 5:00 PM Saturday afternoon. No Sunday?? I don’t know about the rest of you but I like Most people have to work Fridays I am not retired so I have to drive to Plano on Saturday and usually don’t get there till late Saturday, why go? Ham Fests should CONSIDER OTHER PEOPLE’s needs not just those of the Retired segment. But there are a lot of issues to keep in mind. It’s always too hot, take shade if you’re going to be outside and dress for it, take lots of water Gator Aid and Sun Screen. It really too hot there. Its too expensive, its takes the better part of $50.00 to attend, Now after the bad stuff the folks there are nice generally nice and try to work with you as much as they can. The blend of equipment can vary widely some super good some junk,(the latter refers to my stuff LOL) As long as they have plenty of inside swap tables its generally a good one to go too. Texas City A great swap fest a little small but they and really NICE FOLKS and always manage to find a table for you inside. I don't really know these people but I Iike these folks, they are really nice. You should go see them some time. Very much worth the time and drive to get there. Austin TX One of the smallest swapfests that is definitely WORTH GOING TO. Caution if you plan to sell outside be sure to bring water and shade if you can or get inside BEFORE Noon. ( HOT HOT HOT!) A LOT OF FUN WITH A LOT of cool items and good people. Belton TX I have going to this one since the first time it was held. I was a member of TARC back then and it was good the first time and has only gotten better. The Fall event is a lot of fun and usually not so uncomfortable and not too hot, people are always friendly and the items on the tables are always good. Paris Texas .I have never been to this Swap fest it might be pretty good. I will post more on this one when I have more information on it. Lufkin Texas Again I have never been to this one but it might be good I don't know for sure. I will post more on this one when I have more information on it. Corpus Christi Texas Finially I have never been to this one but I am not sure what it will be like. I have been to Corpus Christi a lot and it is always VERY HARD to get anyone to talk too you on the radio while your in Corpus Christi, not sure how their swap fest would be just not very friendly. Might be Okay. I will post more on this one when I have more information on it. |
